And how the stock market ended up by 70% from its low point of the year (but you never heard that in the news). Is It Unethical to Fire an Employee for Getting Pregnant?

By: Glenn Shepard
Category:
Management
Intended Audience: Management

Overview: Is it ethical to fire an unmarried employee for getting pregnant? The answer may not be as clear as you think. One Nashville company is being sued for doing that, and legal experts say it may win the case because the employee violated the company’s moral code against premarital sex. Court records indicate that at least 12 other employees were fired or forced out for the same reason. While that may be unusual, it does bring up an important question about an employer’s right to set ethical standard for their employees.
